This study analyzed the economic implications of protecting the Jacques Cousteau National Estuarine Research Reserve (JC NERR; New Jersey, U.S.) by utilizing two methods of economic valuation: damages avoided and market-based. The results of the analysis indicate that natural infrastructure, such as that found in the JC NERR, have substantial value in terms of preventing damage from storm events. This report can be used to assist natural resource managers in communicating the value of their work to the public and potential funding agencies.
