Law, N and Hanson, J. 2016. Recommendations of the Expert Panel to Define BMP Effectiveness for Urban Tree Canopy Expansion. Center for Watershed Protection and Chesapeake Stormwater Network, Ellicott City, MD. 236 pages
expert, tree, canopy, BMP
The Chesapeake Bay Program approved two new urban BMPs to expand urban tree canopy that can be applied toward TMDL pollutant reduction goals. The newly adopted BMP credits include two BMPs: 1) Urban Tree Canopy Expansion and 2) Urban Forest Planting. These BMPs replace the current urban tree planting BMP for the Phase 6 CBWM. The recommendations in the report provide local jurisdictions with flexibility seeking credit for tree planting efforts. The newly adopted BMP credits represent the different types of tree plant that increase tree canopy found in urban areas – from single trees to forested areas.
