This study used molecular marker analyses on water samples with elevated fecal coliform counts in order to identify likely sources of fecal contamination in the Elk Run watershed (Jefferson County, West Virginia, U.S.). The results indicate that the majority of the fecal coliform pollution in the area is primarily from bovine influences.
