This study developed a model of global soil erosion potential by combining remote sensing, GIS modeling, and census data. The model is used to estimate the effects of land use change on global soil erosion between the years 2001 and 2012 and to evaluate the potential offset of conservation practices. The authors predict an overall increase in global soil erosion, primarily due to increases in cropland cover.
