This paper presents the results of a series of studies conducted by NOAA’s National Status and Trends Mussel Watch Program. The Program conducted regional studies to evaluate the magnitude and distribution of various pollutants in shellfish and sediment in the coastal areas of the Chesapeake Bay (MD, U.S.) and Charleston Harbor (SC, U.S.).
