This study outlines the techniques developed by the Northeast Region of the United States Fish and Wildlife Service for using its National Wetlands Inventory (NWI) data to better charcterize wetlands and predict wetland functions. The now-called NWI+ database was developed by adding hydrogeomorphic descriptors to standard NWI data.
