This study analyzes the 2015 outbreak of domoic acid, which was the largest recorded outbreak of this neurotoxin, along the west coast of the U.S. The results of the analysis indicate that anomalously high temperatures of the nutrient-deprived ocean water initiated the toxic algal bloom.
