This study analyzed samples from a shellfish growing location in the Chesapeake Bay watershed (U.S.) to quantify bacteria, pathogen, and fecal indicator bacteria incidence and severity. The results indicate that specific bacterial groups are often ineffective estimators of pathogen presence in estuarine shellfish habitats.
