This study evaluated the impacts of urbanization on grass shrimp (Palaemonetes spp) populations in a small estuary on the coast of South Carolina (U.S.). Indicators of urbanization (like sediment-sourced PAHs, land use, imperviousness, etc.) were assessed using spatial analysis and GIS techniques. The results indicate that loss of habitat as a result of a growing urban environment is a major influence on declining densities of grass shrimp populations.
