This study modified the protocols for the Bank Erosion Hazard Index (BEHI) assessment of fluvial geomorphology, which evaluates an area’s potential for streambank erosion using several visual and measured indicators of susceptibility. The modified protocols developed in this study were used to assess high-priority stream reaches in Cleveland, Ohio (U.S.), and the results of the assessment were compared to the results of the original BEHI assessment to ensure accuracy. The study showed that the modifed and original BEHI protocols produced similar streambank erodability ratings; however, the modified protocols significantly reduced the time and resource requirements associated with the assessment.
