This study evaluated the persistence of dissolved organic carbon (DOC) at various concentrations in sediment and water samples from a catchment in North Wales (United Kingdom). The results indicate that the higher microbial biomass and increased inorganic nutrient content in river sediments leads to faster DOC processing than in river water.
